The property and construction sector employs more than 40,000 people in the region.
Over the next few years new jobs will be created by investment in housing, transport infrastructure and new commercial developments. Demand created by the low carbon sector, including the retro fitting of social housing, will also stimulate growth in the construction sector.
With dedicated construction centres at Rotherham College and Dearne Valley College, we offer training in all the main construction trades – with courses and apprenticeships in bricklaying, furniture craft, joinery, plastering and plumbing.
During your training you will also have the opportunity to complete an industry placement, which will help to develop your employability skills and industry contacts.
Our construction centre at Dearne Valley College is a high-quality and industry-standard learning facility where each trade has its own workshop space, fitted with both individual booths and large workspaces for you to work on your own projects and tasks. After successfully completing a national industry recognised qualification you will be able to pursue a career in the building industry as a plasterer or further your knowledge and experience with an apprenticeship.
You will gain knowledge, understanding and skills in our industry-standard workshops as you become a qualified carpenter or joiner. These include introduction to wood machinery and power tools, exploring timber technology, timber floor and roofing techniques, modern truss roof construction, all aspects of kitchen fitting, building partition walls and fitting door linings and fitting doors.
